The Tanna Rabbi Shimon ben Elazar lived in the Galilee after the Bar Kochba revolt. A student of Rabbi Meir.
Rabbi Shimon ben Elazar combined Halacha and Aggadah in his Torah. Few of his articles are quoted in the Mishnah, which was already signed in those days, and the rest appear in the Tosefta and in the alliances in the Talmud.
The identity of Elazar, the father of Rabbi Shimon, is not known, but some speculate that it was Rabbi Elazar Ish Barutta. In a large part of his halakhic rulings, Rabbi Shimon relied on his rabbi, Rabbi Meir, whether from the rumor he learned from him or from evidence from which he learned how Rabbi Meir behaved according to halakhah.
