Rabbi Shlomo Ibn Gvirol

was born in Malaga, Spain, in about 1021, to his father, Rabbi Yehuda.

He was one of the greatest poets and Jewish thinkers in the golden age of the Spanish Jewish community. He suffered in his life from various diseases and died childless at a young age (1050).

He invested himself in studying Torah and Gemara,
And research in-depth the basics of grammar in the Hebrew and Arabic languages.
He also studied astronomy and engineering.
Born in the Spanish city of Malaga, he was orphaned by his parents at a young age.
All his life he was very weak and sickly and felt sad and lonely. died at a young age, being 36-37 years old, In the city of Valencia in Spain.

Folk tradition says he was murdered by a gentile who envied his wisdom.
Despite his short life his creative power was immense.
Wrote several thought books and hundreds of poems.

One of his famous songs is The royal crown,
That in some Israeli communities it is sung in the synagogue on Yom Kippur.
His poetry is valued, learned, composed, and sung even today.

Opinions are divided about his burial place.
Some claim he is buried in Spain, although it is not clear where exactly his burial place is.

According to another opinion, Rabbi Shlomo Ibn Gvirol is buried in the village of Kabul in the Western Galilee.
