Rabbi Shimon Shzuri

Rabbi Shimon Shzuri was a Tanna in the fourth generation. Shazuri is named after his craft – weaving ropes, or after the village where “Shazur” lives, is articles are mentioned throughout the Mishnah and the Talmud, Friend of R. Yehuda, R. Meir, R. Shimon and R. Yossi. His rabbi was R. Tarpon.

The name of the village “Shazur” resonates today in the name of the Druze settlement of Sajur, where there is a tomb attributed to Rabbi Shimon Shazuri, and in the name of a nearby Moshav Shazur.

The written tradition regarding the tomb dates back to the 13th century, with its mention by Menachem the Hebronite who visited the area in the year 1215.

Arrival instructions
From Road 85, enter the road leading to Kfar Rama, c. 100 m, then turn left onto the Shezor access road. After about 2 km, reach the end of the road, and from there turn right, then left, and then left again, continue for another 350 m on the road that goes out of the village, to a large building. From there continue on a dirt road to a small building with a dome, this is the score of Rabbi Yishmael Cohen Gadol. Opposite the entrance, between the trees, is the tombstone of Rabbi Shimon Shzuri
