The Shiloh Fountain-Hezekiah’s Tunnel – City of David- נקבת השילוח

is an intrusive tunnel in Jerusalem, through which the waters of the Gihon Spring were passed under the houses of the City of David from east to west, for more than half a kilometer.

The Fountain, hewn in the days of King Hezekiah in the eighth or seventh century BCE, about 2,700 years ago,

located within the city of David National Park, and has been nicknamed “the most impressive of the ancient waterworks in the country.”  In the history of Jerusalem, which enabled the supply of water to its inhabitants from a source located within the city walls, something of crucial importance in times of war

in the Fountain discovered, with authentic details about its quarrying route, and is one of the few Hebrew inscriptions that survived from the First Temple period. It is customary to attribute the quarrying of the Fountain to King Hezekiah’s preparations for an expected siege of Sennacherib, king of Assyria, but there is controversy in archaeological research as to this dating.
