Stone steps lead to a giant half-carob tree near the narrow, blackening opening of a narrow cave. A small plaza built here allows the traveler to stop and connect to the cave, the hiding place of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (the Rashbi), and an exciting historical and faith story.
Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, who lived in the second century AD, was one of the Tannaim, the sages of the Mishnah. He studied at Rabbi Akiva’s yeshiva in Bnei Brak
