Rabbi Tarpon was one of the elders of Dor Yavne. A member of the Kohanim family, Bar Plugata of Rabbi Akiva and rabbi of Rabbi Yehuda.

Rabbi Tarpon lived and worked in the city of Lod. He was a priest, and in his youth he still had time to work in the Temple. Lasted many years after the destruction, and probably died near the Bar Kochba revolt. He observed the mitzvah of charity, which he distributed from his great fortune, and was also known for his great observance of the mitzvah of honoring father and mother.
