A fifth-generation Tanna for the conditions of the Land of Israel, rest in honor in Meron in the Galilee
The son and disciple of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, who declared of him: “My son, I and you are enough forever.” A close friend of Rabbi Yehuda the President, editor of the Mishnah.
His ways, laws and sayings appear in the Mishnah, the Talmud and the Book of Zohar.
Rabbi Elazar was revealed in his youth as a tremendously wise disciple. Studied Torah with Rabbi Yehoshua ben Karcha together with Rabbi Yehuda the President; Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel called him “Ari ben Ari” (Baba Matzia) but received the main points of his teachings from his father, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, with whom he studied in a cave in Peki’in, while they were persecuted by the Romans.

Description of the place
The story of his passing that appears is shrouded in an echo of wonder and mystery. Near the time of his death, Rabbi Elazar chose to take on many torments. Fearing that they would not bury him properly, he demanded that his body be hidden in the attic of the synagogue of the village where they lived – Kfar Akbara in the Galilee and some say a village in Gush Halav).
The Gemara says that the attic of the synagogue became a center of pilgrimage for all the villagers, who would stand near the attic, flatten their questions or discuss the matter, and be answered by an echo that would come out of the attic. Later, on the eve of Yom Kippur, the body of Rabbi Elazar was abducted from the attic and transferred to Meron, near the burial place of his father, Rabbi Rabbi Shimon Tomb
