Dan Tomb, Father of Dan Tribe of Israel, Dan son of Jacob
According to the Book of Genesis, Dan (Hebrew: דָּן, Dan, “judgment” or “he judged”) was the fifth son of Jacob and the first son of Bilhah. He was the founder of the Israelite Tribe of Dan. In the biblical account, Dan’s mother is described as Rachel’s handmaid, who becomes one of Jacob’s wives. (Book of Genesis, Genesis 30:1–6)
He was the father of Hushim, according to Gen 46:23. Samson was a descendant of Dan.
Dan was born to Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid. He was born and died on the 9th of Elul at the age of 125. Rachel named him Dan saying “God has judged me, heard my voice and given me a son.” The name Dan comes from the Hebrew word “to judge”
